Dining Out: NEW Silver American Brasserie

Co-founders Chef Ype Von Hengst and Bob Glaimo have opened another Silver location in the DC area! Originally known for creating the Silver Diner, Glaimo and Von Hengst have created a New American Brasserie that brings the old-fashioned feel of a diner with giant burgers, sandwiches, homemade sodas and shakes. However, this new spin on a diner has an updated style and flavor profile, with craft cocktails, flexitarian options, all day brunch, a beautiful outdoor patio, and fresh, locally sourced foods. This new farm-to-table diner is located in the Cathedral Commons neighborhood, near American University and the National Cathedral.

Silver has a handful of delicious drinks for breakfast, lunch, and dinner including unique bloody mary's, hand-spun shakes, house made sodas, local craft beers, and sweet cocktails. Silver has one happy hour on Monday-Friday from 4-6:30PM which serves $5 margs, mojitos, and spiked sodas, as well as $5 food specials. Silver also has an after hours happy hour on Sunday-Thursday from 10PM-12AM and Friday-Saturday from 10PM-1AM. Silver plays light, acoustic music, which helps to create the perfect atmosphere for guests and people in the neighborhood.

Silver has a large menu, with options for anybody! Appetizers include Avocado Toast with pomegranates, delicious Brussel Sprouts, Kale and Bleu Cheese Salad, Buffalo Wings, fresh Tuna Tartare, and Hummus with warm pita.

The entree menu includes specialty sandwiches including a giant organic Fried Chicken sandwich with cole slaw, a Goat Cheese Spinach Turkey burger, or a regular Cheeseburger! The menu also has healthier dishes including Atlantic grilled salmon options, vegan stir fry and salads, and brunch specialties like boneless Fried Chicken and Waffles, Bison Huevos Rancheros, and Banana Stuffed French Toast!

If you are still hungry after your appetizers and entrees, you MUST try the desserts! Silver has a laundry list of dessert options, including the famous beignets that Von Hengst created when winning the television show Chopped on Food Network earlier this year. Ype competed against 3 other modern diner chefs, and won the final dessert round with his fig beignets and ice-cream. After winning Chopped, Ype donated his $10,000 prize to Doctors Without Borders.

Silver is a modern farm-to-table diner that is PERFECT for a date night, drinks after a long day studying, or a perfect neighborhood spot for brunch! The new Silver is located on Wisconsin, about a mile away from the Tenleytown-AU Metro Station. Silver is open Sunday-Thursday from 7AM-11PM and Friday-Saturday 7AM-12AM.
