Congrats to DC Lamb Jam 2016 Winner Chef Dupuis!

By Claire Goldman

The American Lamb Board's DC Lamb Jam 2016 was hosted on Sunday May 15th at Union Market.

The event kicked off with the Beats + Eats VIP party featuring live music from the Lamb Jam House Band, The Silver Mirrors.  VIP guests enjoyed lamb dishes by Chef Hamilton Johnson or Honeysuckle and DC Empanadas and the drinks were flowing thanks to local One Eight Distillery and Union Craft Brewing.

Once warmed up, guests headed to the main event Lamb Jam Grand Tasting in Dock 5.  Nearly 400 lucky attendees of the sold out event tasted and voted on lamb dishes from 17 of the top chefs from the DC area.

While all of the dishes and their chefs are stars, the following were the big winners of the day as chosen by the local food media judges (including Lauren DeSantis, owner of this blog):

    - Best in Show and Best in Asian:  Chef Dean Dupuis of Brasserie Beck's Charcoal Grilled Vietnamese Style Lamb in Grab Leaves
    - Best in Latin American and People's Choice:  Chef Victor Albisu of Del Campo's Black Lamb Birria, Burnt Tomatillo, Cuttlefish Escabeche
    - Best in Middle Eastern:  Chef Keith Cabot of Evening Star Cafe's Slow Roasted Lamb Shoulder with Harissa Glas, Quinoa Tabbouleh, Mint and Preserved Lemon

    - Best in Mediterranean:  Chef Matt Baker of Gravitas's Braised Lamb Shoulder, Stewed White Beans, Warm Flatbread, Feta Enriched Tzatziki, Herb Salad
