NYC isn't the only city on the east coast with a passion for fashion, DC Fashion Week is in full swing.  There will be a Haute and Modesty show Friday night, showcasing designers that outfit the conservatively stylish.  The main event will be the M.E.D.I.A. (Metropolitan Emerging Designers & Indie Artists Showcase) on Saturday night at the The Liaison Capital Hill Hotel. This show will feature emerging American designers such as Sharon Brown, SJB Millinery, Makason, Quynntessential Couture and more.  Doors open at 6:00, the show will begin at 7:00.  Closing out the week will be the International Couture Collections show on Sunday at the Carnegie Library, doors open at 5:00 and the show will begin at 6:00.  All DC Fashion Week shows require tickets.

First Taste: Mango Tree

I fell in love with Thailand and everything about their cuisine on my first visit to the country in 2011.  I was so excited to hear that a new and authentic Thai restaurant, Mango Tree, was coming to DC.  I recently got a taste for myself and was not disappointed.

First Taste: China Chilcano

Jose Andres continues to push the food envelope and grow his empire with his latest concept, China Chilcano. Currently one of the hardest reservations to score in the city, China Chilcano showcases Peru’s vast culinary heritage, with its native Criollo having roots in every dish on the menu. In addition, Andres weaves Chinese Chifa and Japanese Nikkei cuisines into China Chilcano’s dishes as well, giving a diner the opportunity to sample several different cuisines in one trip. The extensive research Andres’ team embarked on before opening the restaurant really paid off; flavors blend beautifully and the extensive menu has something for everyone.

Menu ReVamp: The Grill Room

By Lauren Rosalanko

I was thrilled to test out Chef Frank Ruta and and pastry chef Aggie Chin's newest culinary concepts for The Grill Room located at the Capella Hotel in the Georgetown neighborhood of Washington, DC. This new menu features a wide array of seafood, salads, pastas, meats and vegetables to please every different type of taste. The cheese and charcuterie was a great way to start the evening, especially with the sweet, cranberry bread.

The Washington Humane Society’s annual dessert and champagne reception is one of my favorite nights of the year.  An event hosted by Chef Todd Gray & Ellen Kassoff Gray of Equinox features delicious desserts to honor local crusaders against animal cruelty.  This year's celebration did not disappoint with chocolate, bubbly and furry friends as far as the eye could see...
