Upcoming Events: Father's Day and More!

World Cup Kick Off - This Thursday kicks off the 2014 World Cup games with the 4pm Brazil vs. Croatia match. Many area bars are offering specials, games and deals during the month to head out and enjoy the matches including Fado, Del Campo, Graffiato, Smoke and Barrel and many more. Lima Lounge is hosting a kick off party starting at 2pm with outdoor patio viewing and specials including $4 beers, $6 caipirinihas, $8 sliders, and $5 empanadas. Truckeroo, DC’s largest food truck festival will be held this Friday, June 13 from 11am – 11pm! The location: Fairgrounds @ Half St and M St SE across from the Navy Yard metro entrance. 

Spend Father’s Day with the Father of the Country! “General Washington” greets visitors and poses for photographs from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Father’s Day weekend, June 14-15. Listen to “General Washington” as he discusses his role as husband, stepfather, and Father of Our Country at 11:00 a.m., 1:00 p.m., and 3:00 p.m. in the program “Father to the First Family.” Admission to Mount Vernon is $18 for adults and $9 for children. Children under 5 are admitted free. George Washington’s Distillery & Gristmill site is included in this admission fee.

Celebrate Dad with a special meal at the Mount Vernon Inn! On June 15, relax in the Mount Vernon Inn’s sunken garden and enjoy a variety of barbecued items including: beef ribs, Italian sausage, roasted pig, and other items. Mio Restaurant, located at 1110 Vermont Ave., NW, 20005, will welcome Puerto Rican Celebrity Chef Wilo Benet of the award-winning Pikayo restaurant thisFather’s Day. Benet will visit the nation’s capital June 9th-16th as a guest chef at Mio Restaurant. He will be introducing new contemporary dishes that will be featured as a la carte specials throughout the week leading up to his Father’s Day brunch menu on Sunday, June 15th. Prices range from $14 to $30. Father’s Day Brunch will be served from 11:30 AM to 2:30 PM.

June 16: Enjoy eating great food and supporting a good cause? Then be sure to attend Chefs in the City, being held at Union Market in NE. Chefs in the City is a fundraising event benefiting the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation (DC Chapter). Several of DC’s finest chefs will be designing their own menu for a 5-course dinner, complete with wine pairings. Each table will have a different chef, menu, and décor. The event will begin with cocktail hour, with the theme being “A Smashing Good Time” featuring all muddled cocktails such as the mojito and the old fashioned. Chefs from restaurants such as Central Michel Richard, Maple Avenue, Poste, and Brabo (among many others) will be featured. June 17: Tuesdays are getting livelier this summer in Dupont Circle! Bar Dupont at The Dupont Circle Hotel has launched Dupont Live!, a weekly concert series held every Tuesday from 7-9:30pm on the bar’s popular outdoor patio.
