Matchbox New Summer Menu Items

Matchbox Chefs Jacob Hunter and John Guattery
by Claire Goldman
Matchbox invited Capital Cooking to check out the new summer menu items created by the head chefs of each of the three Matchbox locations.  Chinatown, Capitol Hill and Rockville each brought colorful and delicious mini versions of their new dishes created especially for the warmer months.

Chinatown's Executive Chef, Cliff Wharton, chose a tempura tuna roll with arugula salad which he garnished with some wasabi sauce for the perfect addition of Asian style heat.  Also from Wharton, finger-licking good Asian glazed pork ribs with cucumber salad and an artfully served shrimp, melon and tomato salad which was displayed on individual skewers for the purposes of the tasting party.

When I think of Matchbox, I think wood oven pizzas.  Luckily the Matchbox pizza specialist, Chef Bart Nadherny, laid out the new prosciutto and black mission fig pizza for us to try.  It was melt-in-your-mouth good!

The team from Rockville lead by Executive Chef  Jon McArthur had a wonderful mix of flavors to try including, sweet and savory prosciutto wrapped mozzarella and melon salad.    Their grilled swordfish and arugula salad was a perfect summer fish dish.  If you are looking for the right way to eat the other white meat I would definitely recommend ordering the chilli-rubbed pork tenderloin with apricot mustarda, also a very pleasing mixture of flavors.
Last but not least, and actually the first thing I went for after walking in the sweltering DC heat to Matchbox, the new infusion beverages.  My favorite is the cucumber infused gin and tonic, it is perfectly refreshing.  Stop in to check out all of the new items
