Upcoming Events: Memorial Day Round-up

Sticking around DC for Memorial Day?  Here's my guide on fun things to do and places to eat if you stay in town.

"All-American" Gospel Supper: Bring the entire family to the Hill Country on Sunday, May 27th for our first-ever Gospel Supper from 5:30 to 7 PM in the Boot Bar (doors open at 5 PM). We'll be featuring the soulful sounds of the Greater Mount Calvary Holy Church Choir while serving up an "All-American" all you can eat supper buffet of pit-smoked cowboy burgers, all beef pit-smoked Texas hot dogs, market chicken, HC ice pops, ice cream sandwiches, cheddar apple pie and more! You're welcome to stick around after the supper for a complimentary blues performance by DC area native ELI COOK. Cost for the supper buffet is $20 for adults, $10 for children 12 and younger. Adult Swim is a weekly summer pool party held every Sunday at the Capitol Skyline Hotel (10 I Street, SW, DC), hosted by Liquid Lifestyle. These Miami-style pool parties feature the best local DJs, celebrity appearances, fashion shows, live musicians, costumed dancers and surprise entertainment. The series Grand Opener on Memorial Day weekend, Sunday, May 27th, is open to the public and will kick-off DC's most anticipated pool party series. The party runs from 12-6pm, with free admission until 1pm with a text RSVP. To RSVP, patrons must text their full names to 202-RESERVE, and will in-turn receive a confirmation text to show at the door. After 1PM or without a text RSVP, cover charge is $20 at the door. Bottles service is available by reservation only and tables usually sell out about a week in advance. Tables are $500, including 2 bottles for 10 people. Fuel Pizza and Wings: 'Say No To The Beach" Memorial Day Celebration: Fuel Pizza is saving patrons the headache of Memorial beach traffic by bringing the flavors of the beach to K Street. Fuel will offer a $7 Margarita and Old Bay Crab Pizza special; a frosty, house made margarita served with Fuel's famed Old Bay Crab Pizza, made with real crabmeat, onions, spinach and lemon. It'll have guests feeling like they're at the beach without setting foot out of DC. 3: Memorial Day Oystravaganza:  The grills (and a whole lot of oysters) are coming out on Clarendon's best patio at 3's Oystravaganza. 3 will host a Memorial Day Oystravaganza Sunday, May 27th 5 to 9 p.m. bringing the best of the Chesapeake Bay and Rappahannock River to Arlington with specials on local Maryland and Virginia oysters in 14 different forms including shooters, on the half shell, sliders, Rockefeller and stews. Holiday Weekend Champagne Dinner, J and G Steakhouse Sunday, May 27, 6pm. J and G Steakhouse presents a special Champagne dinner featuring the vintages of Duval-Leroy, which has been producing Champagne for more than 150 years. The latest in the Wine Bar Spirits Series, this limited-space, one-seating event offers a rare opportunity for guests to educate their palates on the surprising complexities that exist in a glass of bubbly  when it's paired with the right dish. What better way to celebrate a holiday Sunday? Sticky Fingers will be offering two Memorial Day specials: an in-store only "BBQ" Sandwich," and the option to order a "Picnic for Two" to-go.  The Picnic for Two features a choice of two house made wraps (options are Chik'n Caesar, Chik'n Ranch, Hummus, Asian), two kale side salads, and two of Sticky Fingers' celebrated Cowvin cookies for $26. The Picnic for Two is available for pick up Memorial Day weekend only (Friday, May 25 - Monday, May 28), and can only be ordered in advance by phone at 202.299.9700.

Ping Pong Dim Sum: Memorial Day marks a day of shorts and tank tops as friends and family gather together to bask in the inevitable hot weather DC brings. If these style choices happen expose some fresh ink, show it to us to win a complimentary bottle of Tsingtao beer to help cool off at Ping Pong Dupont. Let us post a picture of it on Facebook, and the tattoo with the most “likes” will win a party brunch for two. On May 28, Ping Pong is celebrating with an all day Party Brunch special filled with all-you-can-eat dim sum and bottomless mimosas. 


On Monday, May 28th from 12pm-5pm, stop by the pop up crab house on 14th Street, NW.  Policy is hosting their Second Annual Crab Festival.

New Patio at Founding Farmers: Opening Monday, May 28th - Memorial Day 2012 Founding Farmers' new location in Montgomery County (minutes from Rockville Pike) is getting ready for summer with the finishing touches on a new outdoor patio. Set to open on Memorial Day Monday, patio seating will be available for dinner on weekend nights and for lunch and brunch on select weekdays. Highlights will include a fire pit, chairs made from recycled soda bottles, umbrellas with built in heaters, and seating for about 80 guests. The patio seating is first come, first served; no reservations accepted.
