Crafty Food Awards

Washington City Paper will host its first annual Crafty Food Awards as part of the Food Craft festivities at the Crafty Bastards Arts and Crafts Fair on Saturday, Oct. 1, 2011
The Crafty Food Awards will showcase the craft food community’s best food and beverage products from Washington, D.C. and beyond. This year, the Crafty Food Awards will crown the best in three categories: PRESERVES, PICKLES, and BEER.

While America’s biggest brands line supermarket shelves, independent food crafters with strong D.I.Y. chops are toiling in home kitchens and basements to bring top quality products to market. Join them Oct. 1, 2011, at the Crafty Food Awards for tastings, demonstrations, and on-site judging by some of D.C.’s top chefs and food writers. We’ll showcase outstanding products you simply can’t find in stores or restaurants.

And we’ll honor the best of the best. The top three contenders in each category will display their products at the Crafty Bastards Fair at the Marie Reed Learning Center at 18th Street and Wyoming Avenue NW, in Washington. Our judges will rate each offering on a 20-point scale: 10 points for flavor, 5 for creativity, and 5 for sustainability.

The winner in each category will be awarded free entry into next year’s Good Food Awards (subject to Good Food Awards submission criteria) and will be awarded a very special Crafty Food Awards Trophy.

To enter the Crafty Food Awards competition:
• Entries will be accepted between Aug. 1 and Sept. 1. The application fee is $10.
• All entries must include: Your product plus a written application with your name; contact information, including phone and email address; a brief description of your product; and why you think it should be chosen to receive a 2011 Crafty Food Award.
• All submissions must be mailed or hand-delivered to Washington City Paper at 2390 Champlain St. NW, Washington, DC 20009.
