Just Opened: Codmother

The U Street Corridor was abuzz last night as locals gathered to celebrate the opening of Codmother. Featuring all the makings of an authentic English pub, the subterranean restaurant exudes an eclectic yet cozy vibe. Exposed brick fades into rich, dark wood paneling. Plastered along the walls are old maps, photos, newspaper clippings and sketches paying homage to the great codfish, creating an ambiance that transports you a British countryside watering hole.
A deer head mounted on the wall overlooks the bartenders as they serve up a thoughtful selection of English ales presented in mason jars. Yuengling, PBR and Guinness are all offered on tap, while English favorites such as Old Speckled Hen, Wexford Irish Cream Ale and Sam Smith are also available by the bottle or can.
Codmother’s menu offers traditional pub fare such as a fried mussels sandwich, fried shrimp, and of course their signature beer-battered fish and chips made from female cod, the meatier choice and source of the restaurant’s name.
