Italian American Day

Italians and Friends of Italy crowded the streets yesterday for the 10th Annual Festa Italiana Street Festival in Washington, DC. It turns out that Mayor Fenty's mother is of Italian descent as well. Fabulous food and fun for all. My husband and I enjoyed pizza, Italian sausage and cannoli. Yum, Yum...

If you weren't able to make it this year, hopefully you can make it next year!!

Bacon

Who likes bacon? We recently filmed an episode with Chef Oliver Friendly who happens to make the best bacon that I've ever tasted. He buys the pork belly from an organic pig farmer at the Dupont Farmer's Market. Then he cures the pork belly with a home-made brine and smokes it with cherry wood to give it the most amazing flavor. We will show you how to make a delicious bacon wrapped shrimp recipe on the "Simple Summer Supper" episode airing later this summer. Stay tuned!
